The Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of individual and team events which students prepare for during the year. The competitions follow the format of popular board games, TV shows and athletic games.

Congratulations to Mira Loma High School & Churchill Middle School

Northern California made an impressive showing at the National Science Olympiad tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Stout!

Mira Loma High School in the Sacramento Region won the top spot at the 2016 National Science Olympiad tournament making them the number one team across the United States! A huge "CONGRATULATIONS" to the team and their coaches. Check out a great video announcement of their win at on facebook.

Churchill Middle School in the Sacramento Region won an impressive second place at the National tournament. Congratulations to the team and their coaches.

2016 Division A Sacramento Science Olympiad Results

The 2016 Division A Sacramento Science Olympiad competition was held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Mira Loma High School. Sixteen teams competed in 19 different events. The winning teams are:

2016 Sacramento Division "A" Science Olympiad

The 2016 Sacramento Division "A" Science Olympiad competition will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Mira Loma High School, 4000 Edison Avenue in Sacramento, CA. Head over to the Links section for documents that provide additional details concerning the timeline, coaches meetings and due dates.

There will be 16 teams competing in 19 different events throughout the day.

PLEASE NOTE: The Sacramento Regional Science Olympiad will NOT be held at CSUS this year. Instead it will be held at Mira Loma High School.

2016 Sacramento Regional Science Olympiad Results

The 2016 Sacramento Regional Science Olympiad was held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Mira Loma High School. Twenty-one B Division (middle school) teams competed and Twenty-six C Division (high school) teams competed.

The results are:

B Division:

  1. 1st place: Winston Churchill MS-A
  2. 2nd place: Pomolita MS-A
  3. 3rd place: Smedburg MS
  4. 4th place: Andrew Carnegie MS
  5. 5th place: Rolling Hills MS

C Division:

  1. 1st place: Mira Loma HS-A
  2. 2nd place: Pleasant Grove HS-A
  3. 3rd place: Sheldon HS
  4. 4th place: Bella Vista HS
  5. 5th place: Rocklin HS-A

The NorCal State Science Olympiad will be held on April 16, 2016 at CSU, Stanislaus in Turlock, CA. Churchill, Pomolita, Smedburg and Andrew Carnegie will compete in the NorCal B Division competition. Mira Loma, Pleasant Grove, Sheldon and Bella Vista will compete in the NorCal C Division competition.

1st Science Olympiad Coaches Meeting

The last coaches meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016.

The on-line registration for the self-scheduled events will take place tentatively on Feb. 1, 2016 beginning at 4:00 PM. Please look for important emails concerning this process in the near future.

The following events do not have Event Coordinators at this time. If you know of a qualified person, please let me know.

Coaches Meeting

The first Science Olympiad coaches meeting for Divisions B and C will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at Mira Loma High School in room F-3 from 4-5 PM. The address for Mira Loma is 4000 Edison Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95821. Please see the map of the Mira Loma campus in the Links section and park in the East Parking Lot. (F-3 is located in the round building on the map.) We will not be providing refreshments for this meeting.

The purpose of this meeting is for planning, schedule review, event discussion, and volunteer recruitment. The meeting will be relatively short and informal; however, if needed, sufficient time will be allowed for B and C schools to work collaboratively and discuss both old and new events.

The second Science Olympiad coaches meeting for Division A will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at Mira Loma High School in room F-3 from 5-6 PM. The address for Mira Loma is 4000 Edison Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95821. Please see the map of the Mira Loma campus in the Links section and park in the East Parking Lot. (F-3 is located in the round building on the map.) We will not be providing refreshments for this meeting.

The purpose of this meeting is for planning, event discussion, and moving forward with the 2016 tournament. The meeting will be relatively short and informal; however, this will be an important meeting because there are important topics that need to be discussed.

2016 Sacramento Regional Science Olympiad

The 2016 Sacramento Regional Science Olympiad will be held at CSUS Mira Loma High School on Saturday, March 5, 2016. Please mark this date on your calendars and begin organizing your teams.

Upon receipt of the registration form and payment, a 2016 rules book will be sent and you will be assigned a team number.

The NorCal State Science Olympiad will be held in Turlock, CA at CSU, Stanislaus on Saturday, April 16, 2016.

If you are no longer the coach at your school, please forward this email to the person who will be coaching the team. If you know of other schools that might be interested in starting a Science Olympiad team, please send me their information and forward this email to them. We desperately need to increase the number of "B" teams for our competition.

In addition, there will be a separate "Division A" Elementary Science Olympiad competition on April 2, 2016 for grades 3-6. The information for this competition will also be available on the website. Please notify your elementary feeder schools of this fantastic event and/or send me the email address of a contact at the school.

The first coaches meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2015. During this meeting, we will distribute rules for all events and discuss the details of the competition. Last year, we had an exciting competition, and I look forward to even more teams participating this year.
